About us

TRESOC has been developed to date by a group of Totnes and Environs residents concerned about the threats of depleting global oil and gas supplies (peak oil) and the impacts of climate change.  The current Board of Directors represents a positive complement of skills, local knowledge, experience, passion and commitment.

Ian Bright, Managing Director

Graduated in Forestry from Aberdeen University and has enjoyed a varied career in forestry contracting, consultancy, management and lecturing. His experience with renewable energy development began with a wood heat project in 1994, moving on to become a founding member of Ecoenergy Ltd., a leading UK wood-heat company, in 2001. He has served since 2003 as Renewable Energy Officer with Somerset County Council, winning a number of national awards, including Public Servant of the Year in 2007.

Richard Hoyland, Director

A local Optometrist, Richard has lived and worked in Devon since 1990 and set up his own practice in Totnes in 2005. This allows him the luxury of a very short commute and the time to stay deeply involved in with the local community. Originally trained in Microbiology Richard worked in the shipping industry in London and went on to train in Optometry; during his undergraduate years back in the early eighties his passion for renewable energy was inspired by the Centre for Alternative Technology.

Steve Casemore, Financial Director

Steve is a Chartered Management Accountant and qualified project manager. A resident of Totnes, Steve is motivated to be involved in TRESOC by the desire to deliver profitable, renewable energy to local residents, thus demonstrating that the community ownership of renewable energy resources is a practical response to the threats of climate change and peak oil.

Alan Langmaid, Communications Director

Alan is a pioneer in domestic renewable energy. He switched to an electric scooter over 10 years ago, and the solar panels he installed in his Bridgetown home both power the scooter and generate income from the national Grid. Since leaving KEVICC and being a young reporter for the Totnes Times, Alan went on to become an electronics specialist in the RAF. At Nortel UK, he developed a range of electronic communications technologies. Since early retirement in 2001, Alan has been the Administrator at Totnes Museum.

Jane Brady, Marketing Director

Jane has over twenty years of communications experience for both for- and non-profit organisations worldwide. Having recently returned to the UK from California, Jane is focusing her skills on social enterprise. As a consultant with a business partner in San Francisco, Jane describes their mission as: “In a world of possibility, we design growth, inspire action and deliver good.” A resident of Totnes, Jane is a member of the local car sharing co-op, collaborates with Transition Town Totnes, and is currently working to protect wild salmon, steelhead and their waters.
